On Thursday, September 10th, the NYLIB community will gather for a fireside chat with Congressman Richie Torres, U.S. Representative for New York’s 15th congressional district in the Bronx. Carlos Naudon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ponce Bank, will moderate. The discussion is expected to cover 9/11, the Semiquincentennial, and topics of interest to the banking community. Representative Ritchie Torres is a fighter from the Bronx who has spent his entire life working for the community he calls home. Poverty and struggle have never been abstractions to him—he governs from lived experience.
In 2013, at 25, Ritchie became New York City’s youngest elected official and the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to office in the Bronx. In the City Council, he passed over forty pieces of legislation protecting affordable housing and tackling the opioid epidemic. As Chairman overseeing NYCHA, he held the first-ever public committee hearing in public housing—leading to a $3 billion FEMA investment, the largest in NYC history.
In 2020, Ritchie was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he continues fighting for affordable housing, social justice, and the working families of the Bronx.
Carlos Naudon is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Ponce Bank, a federal savings association headquartered in the Bronx, and of its publicly traded parent company, Ponce Financial Group, Inc.
Ponce Bank was founded in 1960, with its first branch in the Bronx, then considered a declining neighborhood. Nevertheless, the bank planted its roots and has now served the greater New York City and New Jersey areas for over sixty years. The bank seeks to improve the communities around it by serving low-income and minority customers and investing in local small businesses.
Carlos, a retired attorney, first began working with Ponce Bank as a consultant and regulatory counsel in 1985. During his many years in private practice, Carlos was a frequent lecturer and speaker on banking issues, corporate governance, quality assurance, and performance incentives. Carlos joined Ponce Bank’s Board of Directors in 2014. He was appointed as Ponce Bank’s President in 2015 and as its CEO in 2018.
Carlos has a long history of public service. He currently serves as Vice Chairperson of the Community Development Bankers Association, as Chairman of the Minority Bank Advisory Council of the Independent Community Bankers of America, and as a member of the New York Fed’s Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council. He is also the immediate past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Brooklyn Hospital Center and continues to serve as a trustee of the hospital.
Most recently, Carlos Naudon was awarded the 2025 Ellis Island Medal of Honor. This annual award is presented by the Ellis Island Honors Society to individuals who embody the values of the American spirit and the legacy of immigration.
